This iconic choir of coal miners from Cape Breton Island have delighted our audience in 2015 with 2 back-to-back sold out performances. Back by popular demand, we’re thrilled to have Men of the Deeps make a stop at St. Mary’s on their 50th Anniversary Tour. Organized as Cape Breton’s contribution to Canada’s Centennial Year (1967), the group’s inception was an effort by the Nova Scotian island to preserve the rich folklore of the coal mining community. Featuring “home grown” songs and music gathered from mining communities around the world, a special sense of authenticity is given to the group by the presence of retired coal miners who lived and survived hazardous conditions. Anyone who attends a concert by the Men of the Deeps cannot help but come away with the feeling that a special breed of men has touched their hearts – don’t miss your chance to hear them during this special anniversary performance.
